Bahti

The Bahti caste (Punjabi: ਬਾਹਤੀ,Urdu: باہتی) is an agricultural caste found in the State of Himachal Pradesh in India, particularly in Una district; in the Punjab district of Hoshiarpur; in the region of Nangal, Haryana; and in some parts of Rajasthan and Delhi.They are so called because they acquired 62 acres each men in older times.

Origin

Bahtis were called Bahniwal around the 1880s. Some Bahtis started calling themselves Bhattis after this period. H.A. Rose wrote that they are "said to be degraded Rajputs".[1]

Culture

The culture of this community is similar to other communities of Himachal Pradesh. Men of this community wear kurta pajamas and women wear Shalwar kameez. The community treats women with respect and equality.
